You know you're on holiday when you wake up without an alarm clock, to go outside in the crisp morning air and watch the sunrise!
What I didn't count on was having Ethan tag along - but he was a good sport and snuggled up nice and warm again afterwards and had a second sleep. Aaah...holiday.
Still spinning from the whirlwind of excitement in yesterday's activities, we had a choice to make: get off or enjoy the ride - but we had to make the most of this trip! And by breakfast at 8.30am we could just tell that this would be a fantastic day. (Plus, the windless and sunny conditions helped affirm this!)
What do you do after breakfast on holiday anyways? Well, swim of course!
This time, though, everyone was under strict instruction to not out do themselves in the water, because we needed all our strength for our first family trip to the Kittery Shopping Outlets.
With a reluctant gaze stretching from the pool, past the deck and out onto the shore, we checked-out of the accommodation and loaded into the car.
Ever since P-J's first trip to the USA some 12 years ago, I have heard about this outlet shopping craziness. To date, nothing had compared to it in his books... We were warned beforehand: this is not your average experience. You will see more than 100 well-known store names. There will be sales. There will be a further reduction on sale items. There will be a designated clearance section that they are determined to clear out. You will need to constantly check yourself to make sure that you don't OD!
I decided that as the Mom to two kids under the age of 6, I would need to pace myself well. As soon as we arrived at the first strip of stores, I scoured the names for one that may stock harnesses! When I didn't find any, I realised that the next best thing would be to pretend that I'd swallowed a handful of Calmeds! This strategy worked quite well, especially when I made my 10th trip to the toilet on the other end of the strip with Mr Ethan.
Six hours later, we were all just barely standing but more importantly, still smiling! It was time to head back to White River Junction.
Stopping only in Warner for an emergency toilet break, we pressed on, watched the sunset from the Interstate and walked in at home just after 9pm.
What a trip!
