Birth Story in Pictures

On Friday, 16 March 2012 our son, Ethan Izak du Plessis was born. Here is the story of his timeous arrival, captured in the pictures taken throughout the day... Bags are packed, let's go get the baby! Do I look big if I stand like this?   Okay guys, this is serious business... Scrubbed up and ready to go... Whoops! This is the hat...the other was a bootie! I wonder what everyone else is doing today? With Angela, Jorja's good friend, our 'vid-mife' Dr and Mrs Greys Anatomy 2012 Last minute game plan talk When I close my eyes, I'm on an island, sipping Lemonade in the shade... ...Meanwhile, on that island... Ethan has arrived - 52cm tall, weighing 4.4kg! Just a few seconds old and already taking his first test Meeting Mom *Big sigh of relief* Welcome to the Family!

Did my Smart Phone make things SIMPLE or STUPID?

Last week my smart phone stopped working. No outgoing texts or calls, no internet access, no mobile email facility, no social media apps...Just a 'body' with a partly functioning 'brain'. In the meantime, I had no less than 3 emergency hospital check ups and gave birth to a baby! Bad timing perhaps? Or was this the best possible scenario - unable to access certain tools on my phone to make for a significantly quieter and simpler week? I like simple. Cut and dried. Black and white. Hey, technicolour (or HD) has fantastic qualities too...But oh the simple things! For the last year my life has really been trans (con) formed by a highly competitive piece of communication technology. The press button efficiency and on demand access has been something revolutionary - and yet, also addictive. I didn't realise this in its entirety until just last week when I was cut off from 'this world' without a solution within 24 hours. Being completely de

Visit to the Zoo

After watching the movie, Madagascar, with Jorja yesterday, we decided to treat her to a visit to Tygerberg Zoo - to see a real life Marty (Zebra) and Alex (Lion). As it happens, she was more interested in the "E-bunnies" and snakes! Dad admired the monkeys and Mommy enjoyed peering into the cage with the Tiger... She didn't even go into the reptile park! I can't remember my first visit to the Zoo - and hopefully with the next visit I won't be 39 weeks pregnant and walking very slowly - we were just so excited to take Jorja to see some of the animals and watch her reactions to them. What a lovely morning out in the good weather, just the three of us :)

Magic Moments

I walked in on this scene today: Aunty Betty and Jorja singing and talking to one another. Doesn't Jorja look so amused? We seldom see this little Miss sitting down (or still), these days, so that in itself was a treat... But oh how she enjoys Aunty Betty's singing and stories too! When I see her smiling face enjoying the simple pleasures we have, I am thrilled as well. Aunty Betty is very patient with energetic Jorja and we are very fortunate to have her help to care for all of the Bonny Babies.

The Waiting Game

With just 9 days until the expected due date, I feel as though I'm sitting at the bus stop, wondering where the bus is! In the meantime, we're keeping busy with home improvements, Jorja's swimming lessons, PJ's baking at FBC School and more. Perhaps I should use my time at the bus stop to upload some photos for a proper update - in the meantime? Our next check up is scheduled for Wednesday, 7 March 2012. Let's see if we make it until then. Celebrating friends and bumps!
