Last night we closed the window shutters to cut down on some of the street noise...and what do you know? Jorja was happy to laze in and out of sleep, in bed, until 09h30! P-J couldn't hide his amazement when he came to come and wake us up! I guess some people are saying '...you should've tried that long ago...' but one thing's for sure: We won't be trying this on work days!
Jorja and I took P-J to our favourite Puerto Madero park. Jorja had a blast and I enjoyed taking her on the different rides and slides knowing that our bags were being looked after. Actually, a local gave him a newspaper to read and so P-J sat there like the mayor of Puerto Madero while we played...
We walked along a strip with stalls, walkers, cyclists and people on benches, that could fool you into thinking that you're at Sea Point Promenade. Only when we got really close to the edge did we realise that in place of the sea, we were looking at grass and reeds - not a wave in sight. We stopped at one of the stalls and ordered Choripan (a sandwich with either sausage or meat) each, for lunch. I'm sure we were over-charged, just because we didn't understand their language! So much for thinking that just knowing your 'please' and 'thank you's' would be enough. We know how to read, and point to what we want...it's when they start giving us options that we get very confused! Nevertheless, the meal was enjoyable and we even managed to stop and take pics before it was devoured.
Jorja fell asleep on this strip and woke up when we were already halfway through the conservation area. It reminded us a little of the Rondevlei Nature Reserve. Many people jog or walk through there, it seems. Renting a bicycle is also a popular choice of transport as well. We stopped in the reserve to give Jorja her lunch and she smiled and waved at passers-by.
P-J informed me half way through the outing that this was still Birthday Weekend (strategic move so that I wouldn't request everything I saw!) and so before we hit the home stretch, we stopped at La Veneciana for an ice-cream. The shop smelled of freshly brewed coffee and sweet treats. I wish I had a scratch and sniff feature right here! The landlord recommended the place but didn't tell us where it was, so we were very excited to have found it.
After 3 hours on the trot, we returned home. We don't normally walk this often (or far) and it's a whole new world on your voete-bike. Good to see that we can survive without our car for a few weeks...
