I have not seen a single person venture outside with just-washed / wet-styled hair. I've checked to see if it's like a taboo thing to do, but haven't found anything. Jorja did seem to have the shop assistants admire her curly top today. She smiled politely - good thing that assistant didn't catch her finger in one of the curls!
There are no buttons for pedestrians to push when they want to cross the roads. There are no sensors either (I checked). You simply have to wait the traffic light out - and even when the green man beams, you have to be aware of turning traffic coming towards you. Scary! We are starting to cross the roads more assertively, though.
I'm guessing that baby carriers are not common here in Buenos Aires. Who knows? Not to say that PorteƱos (locals) simply progress from the womb to walking hand in hand with their Moms...All I do know is that I got such strange looks the first couple of times that we took Jorja out in the African Baby Carrier, that I though we had it on wrong!
If you don't do nappy tales, skip this paragraph:
On our first visit to the store, almost 2 weeks ago, we purchased a pack of 60 nappies (alt. kimbies/diapers) for Jorja. This week we discovered that they are suddenly too small! Yes, in case the photos don't show it, Jorja's had a growth spurt and now we're left with no less than 50 nappies that don't fit. I visited the store today again and automatically reached for the familiar names in nappy-making...Was it really going to cost me $A 52.99 for just a small bag of these things? And just as I turned to head towards the till, my eye caught another, local brand - for a fraction of the price! Brand-name bullies, bite me! I was not going to break the bank for this reason! Of course, the test is whether they work well enough for me to stick to it, and so far, so good.
I had a cup of tea today - the closest thing to normal (alt. Ceylon) tea since we arrived. It didn't taste quite like home, but it sure tasted good. I waited a long time for a cup of tea! As exciting as the cultural mate seems to be, I can't down it. P-J seems to enjoy it though.
P-J has the weekend off. That's very exciting news! No plan, is a good plan, as they say and we'll fill you in as the weekend progresses. We do hope to find Corrientes Ave. on Sunday, in time for the bus!
Oh yes, and you guessed it: We didn't visit a park today and so there were almost no photos to share...and then we quickly snapped this one!
