April Highlights part 2

Without further ado, let's just put it out there and announce that I've taken up cycling. There, I said it. It may come as a suprise to some to learn that a big majority of the staff working at the Cycle Tour office don't ride a bicycle or sadly, don't make time to. Not sure what I was thinking launching this hobby in Winter, but nevertheless. Here, 1 of my cheerleaders tries on my helmet for size!


Early April kick-started what seemed like party month! Jorja and Ethan were invited to Phoenix's First Enchanted Garden party in the park. What a colourful theme with fun games, clever crafts, sparkly treats and yummy eats! Megan (Phoenix's Mom, my Junior school friend) really put the rest of us cake and tea-ers to shame! For what it's worth, Meg, you would nail that Teacher thing...But the pressure's on her to keep this up for another 20 years - ha ha...





Then, one evening after supper, Jorja decided that she wanted to learn how to write her name. We tried a couple of techniques - but frankly I was still a bit shaky after watching her colour in - and so I resorted to follow-the-dots style. When she realised what she had done, her smile could've melted an iceberg!


While we were still in good spirits and after serious avoidance tactics and other delays, we went to visit Aunty Nadine, the oral hygienist, for a ride in the chair, a mini education on the importance of looking after our teeth, the ongoing search for the tooth* and a quick polish. Well done, brave girl! 
(Jorja firmly believes that her two front teeth have a big gap because the middle tooth went missing...)




To round things off, Uncle Andel and Aunty Robyn treated us to a day at the beach...and no one enjoys the beach more than Ethan! Zac started out a bit apprehensive (ma se kind) but he came around eventually and both boys had a good time exchanging crunchy fruit snacks and sandy hugs.

The week that has been...

"Life as we see it", right? My time so far at the cycle tour office is reminding me of just how demanding life in this age can be - a time seeking instant solution and gratification: We want it now! We won't wait! This is what makes a relaxing, easy going activity seem so rewarding! We've always been fortunate enough to cook with pleasure - obviously more for mine! And since returning from BA, we've also found great enjoyment from leisurely strolls in the neighbourhood or at Sea Point promenade. Take time for this! Week 22

In no apparent order, some of the highlights of the last week have been: Carolling around a log fire with a Yankee Swap, cookies, coffee and new friends Last Friday evening we set off for somewhere near Norwich for our Adult Bible Fellowship (ABF) Christmas party. As visitors to the church, there's already an element of insecurity...now to be heading into someone's home, as Dear Husband would say, "socially awkward levels were at an all time high" - Was the gifts we brought to swap suitable? What was a Yankee Swap anyways? Could you bring something besides sugar cookies to share? Do you have to take off your shoes at the front door? Are you allowed to park people in when the alternative is further up an un-lit, ice covered hill? There were so many unknowns! But once I saw the wood burning in the fireplace I relaxed a lot . The Great Update

If you've stuck around, ever hopeful of a new blog post, I'm here to reward (?) your long-suffering. Read on... If you'd prefer the abridged version here it is: The last post before today was published in March 2020. Today is August 2021.  It has been a minute. What a year it has been. Since our last post we've gone from school-at-home in March to June 2020, to summer holiday under our first "lock-down". School for the kids was back in-person for the entire academic year beginning August 2020 until June 2021 and their reward was ten weeks of summer holiday ... and now here we are, one week away from the 21/22 school year - masks and all. Somewhere in between that, I graduated from college and participated in our online graduation ceremony as the 2021 student speaker!
