Very often I feel the urge to spring clean - sort out a stash of papers, re-pack the contents of a cupboard, move the furniture around... and every so often, I get the chance to do so! The 1 April (Happy Birthday to me) marked my first day of holiday! In true holiday fashion, my husband had arranged for me to sleep away from home, and so - bless his heart - Operation Organisation was put on ice for the weekend. The following Monday (after an entire weekend of birthday bliss) I dressed the part, dropped Jorja at daycare, stopped in at Access Park for some factory deals - and was bitterly disappointed, heard that my tennis appointment was cancelled, head home and...it was time to fetch Jorja again! By the end of that day, I had also agreed to go back to the office (???) to fill in for someone who was on leave for two days! So on Thursday, without too much pre-planning for fear of a jinx, I slowly reached up to the top shelf of the mass of stuff in the backroom (all those bolded words in one sentence just SCARE me!) and began the clear out task. *My dear Mother is terrified of having me tackle rooms in her house in this way. She thinks that I'm too harsh - even ruthless. And perhaps I am. I mean, how could a self-proclaimed sentimentalist part with box loads of goods without batting an eyelid? Well, normally, because I just close my eyes and just throw it out! While working through one box, I reached for the photo albums and a light coloured scale-like film fluttered into the air. I tell you, in a matter of seconds, my mind flash back to when last I saw something resembling this film...and I jumped straight up and over the collection on the floor, racing to P-J in the lounge. Many, many years ago, someone had collected a snakeskin...and stored it in a box. I nearly died. At this point, I thought that my operation had come to a complete stop. But after some taunting (and then disposing of it), P-J cleared the way for me to proceed. At the end of the day, we were well on our way to having a functioning spare room! Hear that, Dom? You will be delivered from the couch for your next sleepover! So rewarding to tackle this project after long last! Go on, try one yourself :) ...Or call me and I will set up a consultation with you, for a nominal fee ;)
"Life as we see it", right? My time so far at the cycle tour office is reminding me of just how demanding life in this age can be - a time seeking instant solution and gratification: We want it now! We won't wait! This is what makes a relaxing, easy going activity seem so rewarding! We've always been fortunate enough to cook with pleasure - obviously more for mine! And since returning from BA, we've also found great enjoyment from leisurely strolls in the neighbourhood or at Sea Point promenade. Take time for this! Here's what we've been a part of this past week: We were encouraged to see a group of students from Bishops come out (even in the rain) and join with the FBC team in painting a mural on the school's new diningroom and kitchen wall. For news and updates visit: http://www.fbcschool.org.za/ We joined over 15 000 walkers in a quest to feed the hungry children in the Western Cape, by participaing in the Blisters for Bread walk on Sunday. We tackl...
