Change is as good as a holiday

"Change is as good as a holiday", they say. And too true! While the Klaasen's set off for their long-awaited, much anticipated Great Brit holiday, I'll freshen up our blog space and oddly, we'll both feel good about it. Okay, okay...I would haggle with a few things in exchange for an overseas trip! We are so excited to be cheering from the sidelines as they head off today. God speed! There's quite a bit of change waiting in the wings. I officially finished my contract at the Cycle Tour office (although while writing this, I'm at the office, working!) and after this week...My daily routine will change. Jorja is also looking ready for some change. She seems to be outgrowing her cot fast and furiously - even happy to sleep on the couch from 4am, if Mommy will lift her out to get there. So it looks as though we'll be 'big-girl-bed-shopping' after this long weekend of Public holidays. Due to the uniquely-timed church services over Easter weekend, P-...

Pumps to ponder on...

Let's look at the shoes below: The Snakeskin print slipper - Designed to look like something that it is not. The Croc - A comfortable fit. ( Image courtesty of Crocs) The Sketcher - A practical shoe The Cream - A smart - casual choice. The Reebok pump action shoe - Fashionable yet no real use. ( Image courtesy of Reebok) The Secret sock - shaped for undercover wear. ( Image courtesy of Famous Footwear) What do all of these shoes have in common? Yes! They are all fashioned to one shoe: The Original Ballet Slipper / Pump . Although all of these shoes share similar style, fashioned to this ballet pump, this ballet pump is the only shoe that would be worn to practise ballet. A ballet teacher wouldn't teach a student of her class, wearing the Croc or the Sketcher . Can you imagine trying to point or twirl wearing any of the other shoes? Now think of this shoe shop in terms of your salvation: Let's say that this ballet slipper - the only shoe to wear when doing ballet danc...

Autumn re-Arrangement

Very often I feel the urge to spring clean - sort out a stash of papers, re-pack the contents of a cupboard, move the furniture around... and every so often, I get the chance to do so! The 1 April ( Happy Birthday to me ) marked my first day of holiday! In true holiday fashion, my husband had arranged for me to sleep away from home, and so - bless his heart - Operation Organisation was put on ice for the weekend. The following Monday (after an entire weekend of birthday bliss) I dressed the part, dropped Jorja at daycare, stopped in at Access Park for some factory deals - and was bitterly disappointed, heard that my tennis appointment was cancelled, head home and...it was time to fetch Jorja again! By the end of that day, I had also agreed to go back to the office (???) to fill in for someone who was on leave for two days! So on Thursday, without too much pre-planning for fear of a jinx, I slowly reached up to the top shelf of the mass of stuff in the backroom (all those bolded word...

Watching Jorja grow...Where does the time go?

Our precious Jorja Sarah is growing up very quickly. I have always appreciated the camera feature on my cell phone and I guess I didn't really understand the full extent of it until now! What a treasure to capture these memories as she develops right in front of our eyes! From nil-per-mouth one week, to singing grace at meal times! "Mirror mirror on the floor... Who's this maiden standing tall?" I even sent this snap with Bokomo! Jorja's Great Grandpa "Sakkie" is so chuffed to hear that they share a common breakfast choice! Jorja takes her doll's mealtimes very seriously...and one day I even watched her sharing her real dinner with the doll in the high chair across from her. We are so despondent when children pick up bad habits, let's rejoice when they practise the good ones! She looks at me as if to say, "What you looking at, Mom? This is me growing up!"

Photo Finish!

Trying out blog-by-Blackberry... ..and what a better moment than the finish of the largest individually timed cycle tour event! Chilly air and bouts of mist is not putting a dampen on this day. Well done to all participants! The Events Office Team on the day

Live from Pick n Pay Lifecycle Expo 2011

Here we are, one month later and my entry is being composed live from the Expo in Cape Town! Right now, the crowds are coming in waves... But when our doors first opened, it was high tide! These Sketchers shoes - gift from husband, bless his soul! - were NOT made for Expo day! I'll have to save them for a Sunday... So far so good, it seems. Our 70-strong team of volunteers have just fallen right into duty and can co-ordinate their race pack distribution as well as their tea breaks... I'm impressed! I'm based at the International section - an interesting group of people! The number of South African's trying to jimmy themselves into this race by hook and by crook ...The foreigners trying to fool us into believing that they "no speak de Ing-leesh " when we tell them that they can't use another person's timing chip... What an experience this is! Will send a real update, with pics of what feels like weeks-gone-by soon!
